Week 5: Growing Modified Organism

I found these 3 examples of genetically modified organisms.

  1. E.coli

E.coli is the most widely and frequently genetically modified organism, without a doubt. Researchers often do DNA Cloning with E.coli. They can more stably preserve DNA in E.coli and it also has the advantage of amplifying longer sequences than PCR.

Gene modification of E.coli is not usually CRISPR, but rather a primitive method of genetic modification using restriction enzymes and DNA ligases. gene-modified ****E. coli are cultured in colonies. In this process, genes for drug resistance such as against ampicillin are also introduced into bacteria. This allows us to select E.coli colonies that have successfully introduced the gene.
